Couple bringing remains of baby home killed in motorcycle crash

A husband and wife who were bringing the remains of their baby home were themselves killed after their motorcycle hit a pick-up truck in Zamboanga Del Norte.

According to a report on "State of the Nation" by Krissa Dapitan of GMA Regional TV, the one-month-old baby had died due to choking.

The couple crashed into the pick-up truck after they lost control of the motorcycle.

Police said the mother was hugging the baby's body when the accident happened.

“Yung baby ay yakap lang nung mother. Nagkasagian sila nung kaconvoy niya po sa motor, and then it so happened na nu'ng nawalan ng control… going na 'yung motor sa sasakyan na approaching, head-on collision po, and then tumalsik po sila pabalik po doon sa lane nila,” Leon B. Postigo chief of police Police Major Anjelo Acuzar said.

(The baby was only being held by the mother. They collided with the motorcycle in the convoy and lost control… The motorcycle crashed into the approaching car, head-on, and was then thrown back to their lane)

Both victims were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, while the rider of the other motorcycle was safe.

The victim’s family and the driver of the pick-up truck has since reached a settlement.

“Nagkaayos din naman po sila. Hindi na magpa-file ng any complaint, provided na tutulong po [ang driver] sa pagshoulder ng pagpapalibing po doon sa mga namatay,” Acuzar said.

(They’ve settled. They wouldn’t file any more complaints, provided that the driver would help in shouldering the burial expenses of the deceased.) —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
