Couple on vacation in Pangasinan drowns in 'Depth Pool' tourist attraction
A married couple on vacation tragically drowned while swimming at the “Depth Pool”, a tourist attraction in Agno, Pangasinan.
According to a 24 Oras report by Russel Simorio on Tuesday, the victims arrived at the area from Antipolo, Riizal and checked at a beach resort in Burgos for a vacation.
From the resort, reports said the 48-year old woman visited the Depth Pool, a local attraction consisting of a rock formation that had a nearby natural saltwater pool that was around 20 feet deep.
The strength of the wind and waves forced the woman to the deeper end of the pool. Her 47-year old husband tried to rescue her but was also overcome by the rough sea conditions.
“Nakita niya ang kanyang asawa na nahulog sa dagat ay minadali niya itong i-rescue sana. Sa kasamaang palad, napakalakas ng alon ng araw na yon. So, tuluyan silang dalawa na nalunod,” said Agno Police chief Police Captain Ross Brian Marmeto.
It took almost four hours to retrieve the bodies of the victims in waters near Barangay Baruan.
“According sa anak, marunong namang lumangoy. Ang problema sa sobrang lakas ng hangin at alon, hindi talaga kakayanin,” added Marmeto.
(According to their child said they knew how to swim. The problem was the wind and waves were too strong, they could not overcome them.)
Meanwhile, authorities reminded beach-goers to watch out for strong waves, especially when the Southwest Monsoon is in effect. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
