5.1-magnitude aftershock of December 2023 quake hits off Surigao del Sur

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Surigao del Sur early Saturday morning, according to PHIVOLCS.

"This is an aftershock of the 2023 December 02 Mw7.4 Offshore Surigao del Sur earthquake event," the agency said.

The quake, which was tectonic in nature, occurred at 3:03 a.m. northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at a depth of 10 kilometers.

There are no expected damage but aftershocks may occur, said PHIVOLCS. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
