Abaca farmers in Iligan City receive Father's Day gifts from GMA Kapuso Foundation
One hundred abaca farmers from Iligan City received gifts from GMA Kapuso Foundation to mark Father's Day.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Monday, the farmers received food packs, hygiene kits, clothes, and caps. Some fathers were also given bicycles.
In celebration of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, they also received free prostate specific antigen test and urinalysis.
"Ang prostate antigen test or PSA ay isang uri ng pagsusuri sa dugo," said Dr. Warren Welby Koa of Medi Linx Laboratory. "Ang mataas na PSA level ay makakatulong sa pag-detect or pag-screen ng prostate cancer."
Among the beneficiaries is Olomoding Datu, who makes a living by harvesting and selling abaca fiber. He earns P40 per kilo, but it takes him around two days to collect 10 kilos together with several other farmers.
His income is not enough to provide for his family, who is currently staying at a day care center after their house was damaged by heavy rains last year.
"'Di ako makasuko sa paghahanapbuhay kasi 'yan lang naman ang paraan para makakita tayo," he said.
To help other people in need like him, you may send your donations to the GMA Kapuso Foundation through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
