OCD deploys team, water filtration truck in Negros Occidental

The Rapid Deployment Team and water filtration truck deployed by the Office of Civil Defense to provide clean water to evacuees affected by the lahar flow in La Carlota City and La Castella arrived in Negros Occidental Monday morning.

“The water filtration equipment can produce 50,000 liters of water per day to serve the population affected by the Kanlaon eruption,” OCD said in a statement.

It added that OCD’s Rapid Deployment Team will remain in the province for two weeks.

The rains last week caused the lahar to flow following the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano last June 3.

Residents have been warned against drinking water sourced near the volcano.

OCD said, as of June 9, a total of 1,177 families in Western Visayas and 83 families in Central Visayas are in evacuation centers.

OCD continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with the affected regions to augment the response efforts when needed.

Kanlaon Volcano remains at Alert Level 2.

State seismologists also reported early Monday morning that the volcano is emitting plumes up to 300 meters tall and has at least six volcanic earthquakes.
