Cobra enters house, alarms residents in Naga City

A resident found a 1.5-meter long Philippine Cobra in the backyard of his residence in Barangay San Felipe, Naga City, Camarines Sur.

The cobra's tail was found to be severed.

Responders from the Naga City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) arrived on the scene immediately.

"Mga alas dos y media (2:30 p.m.) nadakop ta safely si halas, saro [ining] Philippine Cobra or 'Naja Philippinensis.' Saro po ining extremely venomous na halas. Maray ngani ta nadakop tang dae nakukulgan," Alex San Jose, Chief of the Watershed Management Division, Naga City ENRO, said.

San Jose said the area provides suitable habitats for snakes, making encounters to happen more likely.

With the rainy season underway, the office expects more snake sightings as their habitats are disturbed by floodwaters.

San Jose advised the public to not attempt to kill, harm, or capture a snake, especially if they are not trained. Instead, observe where it goes and report to their office.

"Kapag nakahiling po kita ning snake sightings, number one, dae mag-attempt na kulugan, gadanon o dakupon, lalo kung dae man kita nag undergo training sa mga iyan. Instead, bayaan ta [tapos] hilingon kun sain mapundo o matago, then mag-report na sa barangay o digdi sa city ENRO," he said.

"Kung sa laog man kang harong nahiling, immediately, paruliwason gabos na miyembro kan pamilya pati ataman na hayop and mag-apod samo," he added.

The captured cobra was handed over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Camarines Sur for proper handling. GMA Regional TV
