Nearly P1.5M agri damage reported due to Kanlaon Volcano’s activity —NDRRMC


Damage to agriculture due to Kanlaon Volcano's eruption rose to almost P1.5 million

Damage to agriculture due to Kanlaon Volcano's eruption was pegged at almost P1.5 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Friday. 

In its latest bulletin, NDRRMC said that P1,491,206 worth of agricultural damage has been reported in Western Visayas.

Kanlaon Volcano’s activity has so far affected 2,479 people or 682 families in Western and Central Visayas, according to the NDRRMC. 

Of the affected population, 1,400 individuals or 361 families were staying in eight evacuation centers while 364 persons or 62 families were taking shelter in other places.

A total of 1,501 passengers were stranded at seaports in Western Visayas.

All of the 20 domestic and one international flights that were cancelled have already resumed, the NDRRMC said. 

A state of calamity was declared in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, and Canlaon, Negros Oriental.

Assistance worth P2,740,970 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.

On June 3, Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island had a phreatic eruption emitting plumes that rose to 5,000 meters. Alert Level 2 was raised over the volcano, which means “increased unrest.”

Gray cohesive mud, plant debris and gravel have been deposited by lahar along four waterways in La Castellana and Canlaon. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
