Work in government, private offices in Canlaon City suspended after volcanic eruption

Canlaon, Negros Oriental Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas has announced that work in both government and private offices in the city are suspended following the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.

In Executive Order No. 33, the order was a "precautionary and pro-active measure in anticipation of any untoward incident" and with the recommendation of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC).

"Further, all LDRRMC members, the City and Barangay Officials, government employees and others concerned are directed to take and observe all disaster response protocols as well as execute course/s of action as may be given by the LDRRMC and BDRRMC of Canlaon City," Cardenas said.

The directive was issued following the announcement that residents from four barangays have been encouraged to evacuate.

Cardenas ordered the residents of barangays of Masulog, Pula, Lumapao and Malaiba to go to evacuation centers and bring water, food, and utensils.

As of 10 p.m., there are 22 households or 81 individuals evacuated from Barangay Pula and transferred to Macario Espanola Memorial School. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
