8 inmates escape Bulacan police station; 4 re-arrested
Eight persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) escaped from a custodial facility of the San Jose Del Monte Police Station over the weekend, according to GMA Integrated News' James Agustin’s report on Unang Balita.
Four of the PDLs, however, have been re-arrested.
Police Master Sergeant Rod Pating, the investigator on the case, said the PDLs escaped by sawing through the metal bars covering a window of the comfort room.
“Na-discover siya nung time na nagtawag po ‘yung ating, ‘yung mga naka kulong din po. Humingi ng tulong doon sa naka-duty na custodial officer,” Pating said.
(We discovered it when other PDLS called our attention. They asked for help from the custodial officer that was on duty.)
All eight of the PDLs were involved in drug-related cases.
Meanwhile, authorities retrieved the saw they used as well as five metal bars.
Police officials are looking into how the saw was smuggled inside the facility. They have also cemented and covered the window used by the PDLs.
Rearrested
But authorities caught up with four PDLs who escaped.
“Based on doon sa mga information na nakuha natin sa mga operatives is ‘yung iba nakuha doon sa nearest residence nila. ‘Yung iba naman mismo doon sa bahay nila,” he said.
(Based on the information that we received from our operatives is that some have been arrested near their residence. The others were arrested at their houses.)
CCTV footage showed the six PDLs walking along San Pedro Street, Barangay Poblacion aound 3 a.m. on Sunday.
Two of the men broke away from the group while the remaining four started running away. A few minutes later, two more individuals ran past the street.
Manhunt operations for the remaining four PDLs are ongoing.
The police also called on the families of the PDLs to cooperate with them. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
