The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is set to begin exploring for coal in its jurisdiction.
According to a statement on Wednesday, one Coal Operating Contract (COC) applicant submitted documents for the Pre-Determined Areas for Coal at a 14,856-hectare site in the municipalities of Kapai and Tagoloan in Lanao del Sur.

According to Minister of the Interior and Local Government Atty. “It is through our collective efforts that we will transform these resources into lasting benefits for our communities,” she said.
Meanwhile, MENRE Minister Akmad Brahim said the new industry may be key to boosting the region’s economy, as well as creating jobs and improving BARMM’s energy security.
