Woman shot dead outside child's school in Abra

A 38-year-old woman was shot dead by suspects on board a motorcycle while she was waiting for her partner and child to come out of the school in Barangay Zone 3, Bangued, Abra.

The victim, Catherine Aguilar, was sitting on her motorcycle when the suspects arrived and stopped in front of the school. The man riding in pillion shot the victim before he and his companion fled.

The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to the head.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) camera captured the incident.

With the help of residents and the CCTV footage, the suspects were arrested later during a hot pursuit operation.

"Especially itong Zone 3, kasi may mga CCTV sila around sa barangay nila, which is very helpful sa pag-solve sa kasong ito. Nakuhanan natin kung anong kulay ng damit ng mga salarin at anong kulay ng motorsiklo na ginamit," PMAJ Lorenz Paul Claveria, Officer-in-Charge of Bangued Police Station, said.

Authorities identified the suspects as Jomar Britanico Bayle, 40, the alleged gunman; and Dennis Viado Britanico, 21, the driver. Both are residents of Langiden.

A .45 caliber gun was recovered from the suspects.

The suspects said they committed the crime to stop the victim's alleged illegal drug activities.

The victim's family denied this.

"Bahala na ang Diyos, kung ano man ang nasa isip ng mga suspek, ipinapasa-Diyos na lamang namin," Bambie Aguilar, the victim's sister-in-law, said.

Investigation into the case continues as charges are being prepared against the suspects. GMA Regional TV
