Man arrested for hitting young nephew repeatedly with stick in Cebu City
Authorities arrested a man for repeatedly hitting his young nephew with a stick in Barangay Labangon in Cebu City on Sunday.
In a report by Alan Domingo on GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, the man was caught on camera scolding his nephew inside a house before eventually hitting him with a stick while the boy was sitting on the floor.
The boy was still having difficulty walking when he was brought to the barangay hall. He was later brought to a hospital for a fever and several lacerations and abrasions on his back.
The suspect was detained at the Labangon Police Station.
According to a police investigation, the cause of the beating was a fight between the man's son and the victim.
“Nandiyan na tayo sa pagdidisiplina sa bata pero to the point na ganito, which is hindi mabuti sa bata, dapat makontrol na ‘to ang sasabihin sa bata,” said Rhea Partosa, patrol personnel of Women and Children’s Protection Desk of the Labangon Police Station.
(We are already there in disciplining the child but to the point where it is not good for the child, we must control what we say to the child.)
Authorities also found that the child is under the care of his relatives as he has no parents.
“Nanginginig ako pagkita ko sa video. Hindi ko tinapos, nang marinig ko ang hiyaw ng bata hindi ko na tinapos,” said the aunt of the victim, who will file charges against the suspect.
(I was shaking while watching the video. I did not finish it after I heard the child scream.)
