Man faces charges over bomb joke at Davao Int'l Airport

A 42-year-old man is facing charges for cracking a bomb joke at the Davao International Airport in Davao City.

The PNP Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP) arrested the man who was about to board his flight for Singapore.

Authorities said the passenger reportedly said in vernacular, “there are no fragile items inside [my] baggage, only a bomb,” when he was asked by personnel of the Customer Service Agents (CSAs) of Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions Inc. (PAGSS) at the check-in counter.

The passenger was then arrested after the CSAs immediately called the Davao International Airport Police Station (DIAPS) for assistance.

“Subsequently, airport authorities effected an arrest on the suspect while informing him of the nature of the offense made and his constitutional rights in a language he understands, utilizing an alternative recording device,” the PNP Aviation Security Group said.

The man was taken to the Sasa Police Station for temporary detention and was charged for violating PD 1727 or the malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction.

“The PNP AVSEGROUP will never allow lawbreakers to succeed in their attempt to interrupt airport operations. Rest assured that we will firmly enforce the law to its fullest extent,” PNP Aviation Security Group director Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano said. —GMA Regional TV
