Pangolin with burn injury from Palawan grassfire gets treatment

A pangolin with severely burned feet was rescued in a barangay in Puerto Princesa, Palawan following a recent grassfire incident.

According to the "24 Oras" report by Dok Nielsen Donato, the pangolin was found wandering in the area where the blaze happened and was rescued by personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Palawan is one of the areas in the country suffering from the dangerous heat index, which caused the grassfire.

The scaly mammal was turned over to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development.  The staff of "Born to be Wild," a GMA Public Affairs show hosted by Donato, went to Palawan and gave the pangolin treatment.

"Amoy ano siya, amoy sunog. Tingnan natin ang injury niya. Wow look at this, ang paa niya oh. Oh my gosh, sunog," Donato said. "Nakikita natin parang mga first degree burns dito sa paa ng pangolin na ito so we need to disinfect it."

"Kahit may kaliskis, naririnig mo yung respiration niya, clear naman siya from crackles, ibig sabihin wala naman siyang pulmonary congestion," he added.

Pangolins are considered endangered in the country due to their dwindling numbers. —LDF/GMA Integrated News
