Amid El Niño, Hanunuo-Mangyan farmers in Oriental Mindoro receive food packs from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Hanunuo-Mangyan farmers from Barangay Benli in Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation amid the effects of El Niño to their livelihood.

As seen in a report on "24 Oras," Monday, the residents are struggling to put food on the table as the hot weather continues to ruin their crops.

"Halos kami ay walang-wala. Naiibsan kami ng tubig, naiibsan ng mga halaman na aming kakainin," said In-ay Bangulan, who lost some of her banana harvest due to the extreme heat.

"Luging lugi talaga sa ngayon. Kung makakain sa umaga, hapon ulit ang kain kasi walang wala nga eh. Tinitiis namin ang gutom," said Ulyon Calinog, who also plants banana and coconut.

To help the farmers in their time of need, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed food packs and hygiene kits in Barangay Benli. It also conducted a feeding program and distributed vitamins for 100 children.

Barangay captain Adesar Calinog thanked the foundation for their aid.

"Kauna-unahanan po kayo na nakarating sa aming barangay. Kayo po ay hulog po ng langit sa amin," he said. "Kami po ay lubos na nagpapasalamat."

For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
