Fire hits SSS, DPWH facilities in QC


Fire hit three structures in EDSA-Kamuning in Quezon City early Tuesday morning, according to James Agustin's report on Unang Balita.

Bureau of Fire Protection - Quezon City Central Fire Station Engine Commander Fire Inspector Jeramile Valdez said those affected by the fire were two abandoned stalls of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and a janitorial barracks of the Social Security System (SSS).

According to the BFP, the fire started at 1:35 a.m. and reached the first alarm at 1:43 a.m. 

According to Juan Aguinaldo Quezon, a security guard at the SSS compound, they some something spark near the overpass prior to the fire.

“Biglang may nag-spark doon sa may gitna, yung malapit doon sa overpass. Yung properties ng SSS kadikit niya po yung DPWH. Yun, gumapang na unti-unti yung apoy dito, papunta na dito sa barracks ng janitorial services at tsaka barracks ng guwardiya sa amin,” Quezon said.

(There was a spark near the overpass. The SSS properties are near to the DPWH. The fire slowly spread to the barracks of the janitorial services and guards.)

There were containers containing cold mix asphalt and diesel near the fire, the report said.

The BFP said the fire was declared out at 2 a.m. after eight fire trucks responded to the area.

The cause of the fire as well as the total cost of damage in the affected establishments are still being determined, the BFP said. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
