Cotabato PENRO releases rescued eagle in Kidapawan

The Cotabato Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office released a rescued Crested Serpent Eagle back to its natural habitat.

According to a statement from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources SOCCSKSARGEN, the female eagle was rescued last February 27.

Concerned citizens in Purok Santol, Barangay Luvimin, Kidapawan City turned the eagle over to authorities after it collided with a flock of crows and landed close to a river.

After assessment, the eagle was declared healthy and uninjured. It weighed 1.2 kilograms, had a wingspan of 21 centimeters, and legs measuring nine centimeters.

With further advice of rest and close monitoring for stress due to human interaction, it was determined fit for release.

The Crested Serpent Eagle was among the Least Concerned (LC) species with a decreasing population trend. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
