Woman nabbed for online ‘meat scam’ in Cavite
A woman was arrested by the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group in Cavite City on Wednesday for allegedly scamming customers trying to buy meat online.
According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras," the suspect posted photos allegedly stolen from other social media accounts. Her victim, Bernard (not his real name), reported her.
“Nag-search lang ako ng hinahanap ko na karne tapos may mga nag-comment. Napaniwala niya ako na totoong seller kasi ang sinend nyang mga picture ay totoo naman,” he said.
(I just searched for the meat I wanted, and some people commented. She made me believe she was a genuine seller because the pictures she sent seemed real.)
Bernard said he paid more than P12,000 for 27 kilos of beef and 17 kilos of chicken to be used in his business.
“Mas mura siya ng bahagya, so mas makaka-discount ako ng konti, yun nga na-scam na ako,” Bernard said.
(It's a little cheaper, so I can get a little more discount; that's how I got scammed.)
The suspect was caught after the victim contacted her again for another transaction using his friend's social media account.
The suspect agreed to the transaction and was then caught in the entrapment operation.
A criminal complaint against the suspect is being prepared.
“Swindling, estafa, dahil in the first place meron nang panloloko e,” said PNP-ACG Cyber Response Unit Chief Police Coloner Jay Guillermo.
(Swindling, estafa, because in the first place, there is already fraud.)
