Baguio data system attacked 3M times in 2023 —city IT office
There were over 3 million cyberattacks on Baguio City's data system in 2023, Unang Balita reported on Wednesday, citing the Management Information Technology Division of the City Mayor's Office.
Most of the attacks took place in September, the report said.
Although none of the cyberattacks were successful, all the departments were reminded to have a backup system for their data, enhance their cybersecurity measures, and establish preventive measures against such attacks.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) over the weekend bared that hackers breached into the email systems and internal websites of several government agencies that used a cloud service provider, most likely to gather information.
The DICT believes the hackers were operating in China, but the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines dismissed the allegation as "groundless."
Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros has already filed a resolution seeking an investigation into the recent cyberattack on several government websites allegedly carried out by one of three Chinese state-sponsored cyber-intrusion groups. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
