2 suspected NPA rebels killed in Masbate clash — military

Two suspected New People's Army rebels were killed following a clash with government security forces in Masbate Monday morning, a military statement said.

The Philippine Army's 9th Infantry Division said the clash erupted 7 a.m. at Purok 5 in Barangay Tuburan in Cawayan town when elements of the 2nd Infantry Battalion engaged 10 rebels in the area.

The firefight lasted around 8 minutes, the military said.

The rebels were said to be from the Platoon 1, Komiteng Larangan Guerrilla South, Sub-Regional Committee 4.

The operating troops also recovered an M16 rifle, a caliber 38 revolver, one homemade shotgun, mobile phones and other rebel belongings. No casualties were reported on the government side. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
