2 dead, 6 hurt in fireworks factory fire in Cabuyao, Laguna

Two workers died while six people were hurt after a fire gutted a fireworks factory in Cabuyao, Laguna on Thursday.

According to Ralph Obina’s report on dzBB’s Super Radyo, Mayor Dennis Hain said the incident occurred at a small fireworks factory in Barangay Bigaa.

Two of its employees perished in the fire while some of those who sustained injuries are currently in critical condition, including a child.

The fire has been put out, the report said. No other fireworks factory caught fire.

While it has proper permits, this is not the first time the fireworks factory was razed, according to Raffy Tima’s “24 Oras” report.

There were no fatalities in the previous fire incidents.

Meanwhile, Hain said the city government would extend aid to the fire victims.

In a Facebook Live, the mayor also called on city hospitals and drug stores to provide medical assistance to the victims, saying the local government would shoulder the costs of the treatments.

“Nakikiusap tayo sa lahat ng ospital, private man yan o public, sa ating lungsod na bigyan po natin ng karampatan panlunas. Lahat ng gamot at pangangailangan ng mga casualties ay ibigay natin,” he said.

(We call on all of our hospitals to extend treatments to the victims.)

“Huwag po mag-aalala sa gagastusin, ang city government ang sasagot ng mga gastos sa mga casualties. Ang mahalaga po ay mailigtas natin ang buhay ng ating mga kababayan,” he added.

(Don’t worry about the costs, the city government will shoulder that. What’s important is to save our constituents.) —Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA Integrated News
