A policeman died and another was injured after a pickup truck rammed their checkpoint in Silang, Cavite, according to a report by Emil Sumangil on 24 Oras on Monday.

The accident occurred along the Barangay Tubuan-Dos portion of Aguinaldo Highway at around 3 a.m. on Sunday.

CCTV footage showed the fatality, identified as Patrolman John Carl Austria Delyola, being hit head-on by the speeding vehicle before he was dragged underneath the truck for several meters.

Delyola, a member of the 401st A Maneuver Company of Regional Mobile Force Battalion CALABARZON, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Delyola’s father, Ariel, is asking for justice for his son, “Mabigyan po hustisya pagkamatay ng anak ko. Talagang hindi po namin matanggap.”

(We wish justice for our son's death. We really cannot accept what happened.)

Police Corporal Adriene Atienza sustained injuries and was also taken to the same hospital for treatment.

The truck’s driver, Jemuelle “Arvee” Bernardo Belen, is in police custody. Authorities said the 22-year old college student was allegedly drunk when he was arrested.

P/Lieutenant Colonel Louie Gonzaga, SIlang chief of police, said based on medical findings at the time of the incident, “lasing na lasing ang ating suspect (the suspect was very drunk)”.

Based on police investigation, the suspect was also involved in another drunk driving accident in 2021.
