State of calamity declared in San Fernando, La Union after market catches fire
The city of San Fernando, La Union was placed under a State of Calamity on January 19, 2024 in response to the fire that engulfed the wet market in the city on January 11, 2024.
The City Council declared the state of calamity during a special session, paving the way for swift actions to provide aid to businesses affected and expedite clearing operations for the construction of a new market.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, as of this writing.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) La Union has created a team that will investigate the incident thoroughly.
"May team na na-compose ang Provincial Office ng La Union para tutukan ang kaso," FCINSP. Jun Eland Wanawan, Marshal of the San Fernando City Fire Station, said.
The AFP has estimated the damage at P203 million in economic and development loss and P90 million in infrastructure. —GMA Regional TV
