Barangay tanod shot dead by riding-in-tandem in Bulacan
Two suspects shot and killed a tanod outside a Meycauayan, Bulacan barangay hall, according to a Saturday Super Radyo dzBB report.
The suspects were on a motorcycle as they opened fire at the Bahay Pare Barangay Hall on Saturday evening.
Vonne Aquino’s “24 Oras Weekend” report identified the fatality as Rodolfo Santiago, a senior citizen serving as a barangay tanod.
A bystander who survived the incident said the suspects ordered them to lie down before they started shooting.
Meanwhile, Police Captain Jocel Calvario of the Meycauayan Police and two other officers were patroling the area when the shooting was reported.
“So pagdating doon, nakita namin yung isang gunman palabas ng barangay (hall) at pinuputukan pa yung barangay hall. Noong paalis na sila, nakita na kami, agad pinutukan din kami, so gumanti na kami ng putok,” he said.
(When we arrived at the scene, we saw one gunman walking out of the barangay hall, and he was still firing. When he was about to go, he saw us, and we also started shooting.)
The responding officers killed the two suspects. At least 16 shell casings were found at the crime scene.
The motive of the suspects is still being investigated, as well as the mastermind.
“Mabait po ‘yan walang kaaway, talagang pag duty, duty niya,” said the victim’s relative.
(He is kind, and he doesn’t have enemies.)
Meycauayan Mayor Henry Villarica earlier expressed his condolences to Santiago’s family and promised that the local government would assist in the case.
“Makikipag-usap ako sa regional director para magkaroon kami ng ika nga ng pangmatagalang plano. Isipin mo babarilin barangay hall na symbol of authority, pag ginagawa yon ibig sabihin hindi sila natatakot, hindi sila nababahala,” the Mayor said. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
