VP Sara visits wake of Davao de Oro landslide fatalities

Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday visited the wake of those who died in the landslide in Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

Duterte expressed her sympathies to the victims, particularly to the bereaved of the Gumatin family, all of whom died in the landslide, according to GMA Regional TV News.

The eight members of the Gumatin family were among those who were buried under earth and rocks during a landslide in Barangay Mt. Diwata on Thursday. They were reportedly attending a prayer worship when the incident occurred.

Duterte provided cash assistance and 12 sacks of rice to the victims' families.

As of Sunday, 13 people had died in the Davao Region due to landslides caused by heavy rains.

Davao de Oro provincial government information officer Fe Maestre said that 13 people died in their province alone.

Eleven of the fatalities were from Barangay Mt. Diwata, and one person also died in the municipalities of Maragusan and Pantukan. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
