Miner dies in another Davao de Oro landslide
A 23-year-old miner died in a landslide in Maragusan town at Davao de Oro province, which was still reeling from another deadly landslide in Monkayo that left at least 10 people dead.
According to a report Saturday by Super Radyo Davao's Jaycel Villacorte on Super Radyo dzBB, the Maragusan Public Information Office said the landslide occurred in Purok Bagong Silang at Barangay Tandik.
The victim was resting with four of his fellow miners when the earth gave way and covered him with debris.
In Monkayo town, local authorities announced Saturday morning that search, rescue, and retrieval operations would resume in Barangay Mt. Diwata.
Only one person, 45-year-old Rommel Gumatin, remained missing.
The bodies of three other victims were recovered Friday, including a woman who rescued a one-year-old infant when tragedy struck in Purok 19, Pagasa, Barangay Mt. Diwata.
Davao de Oro public information office chief Fe Maestre reported Friday that at least 73 incidents of flooding and landslides were recorded in the province. Over 3,400 families, or about 13,000 individuals, have been taken to evacuation centers as the local government ordered a forced evacuation.
In Davao City, which is geographically located in Davao region, two people died in separate landslides reported on Friday.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said in its most recent report that a total of 270,206 people or 70,862 families in Davao Region were affected by inclement weather caused by a shear line.
Around 36,000 people were displaced from their homes, of which 14,921 people or 4,217 families were staying in evacuation centers, while 21,870 persons or 5,767 families were staying in other places.
