State of calamity declared in Davao del Norte amid floods


Local authorities have declared a state of calamity in Davao del Norte as massive floods continue to inundate towns after days of persistent rains.

According to report Saturday by Super Radyo Davao's Jaycel Villacorte on Super Radyo dzBB, the Davao del Norte provincial board approved the state of calamity declaration to expedite the delivery of services to families affected by the rains and floods.

The Davao del Norte Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that the floods and heavy rains have affected some 58,000 families.

Damage to agriculture was estimated at P39 million as of posting time.

Areas that have been most affected by the floods are Asuncion, Kapalong, New Corella, Santo Tomas, Carmen, Brawler E. Dujali, Panabo City, and Tagum City.

Cloudy skies have affected the province on Saturday morning, the Super Radyo Davao report said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
