DSWD provides P13 million aid to Davao flooding, landslide victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development provided over P13 million in aid to flooding and landslide victims in the Davao Region.

In a Friday statement, the DSWD said 21,203 family food packs were delivered to the provinces of Davao Del Norte, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental during the day.

Meanwhile, 3,664 families or 11,797 individuals were staying in over 60 evacuation centers in the region, and all provincial quick response teams had been activated.

Davao Regional Director Atty. Vanessa B. Goc-ong also said local chief executives had established distribution points for faster and more efficient aid distribution.

“We will ensure that all requests from all affected LGUs will be fulfilled,” said Goc-ong.

“The Field Office also has over P69 million worth of standby and stockpile funds ready for augmentation to localities if the need arises,” she added.

The DSWD expected an additional 54,880 food packs from the Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) on Saturday.

A total of 270,206 people or 70,862 families in the Davao Region were affected by the bad weather caused by a shear line, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Friday.

Around 36,000 people were displaced from their homes, with 14,921 people or 4,217 families staying in evacuation centers and 21,870 others or 5,767 families staying in other places.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the landslide in Davao de Oro's Monkayo town increased to 10 after another body was recovered Friday afternoon. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
