20K devotees join 'Walk with Mary' procession ahead of Sinulog


Over 20,000 devotees joined the “Walk with Mary” procession despite the rainy weather in Cebu City on Friday morning.

According to the report on "Balitanghali" by Lou-Anne Mae Rondina of GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, thousands joined the two-kilometer procession for the 459th celebration of the Feast of Señor Sto. Niño.

They walked towards the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, holding their candles and replicas of Señor Sto. Niño and the Our Lady of Guadalupe.

At 6:50 a.m., the translation started where the image of Señor Sto. Niño and the Our Lady of Guadalupe will be taken to the National Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue City.

On Saturday, January 20, a Fluvial Procession will be attended by 180 sea vessels. This will be followed by a reenactment of the first mass in the Basilica grounds.

On Sunday, the Sinulog Grand Mardi Gras several contingents will compete in different categories such as Sinulog-base, and free interpretation.

The cultural activities started on January 12 when 200,000 devotees attended the “Walk with Jesus."

Ten to 11 masses are being held daily at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño until January 21. 

The festival will conclude with the traditional Sinulog Grand Mardi Gras on Sunday; where dancing contingents will compete in different categories such as Sinulog-base, and free interpretation.
