Davao de Oro landslide death toll reaches 10


The death toll from the landslide in Monkayo, Davao de Oro increased to 10 after another body was recovered Friday afternoon, according to the municipal government.

In a Facebook post, the Monkayo government said victim Elvira Saldua was recovered at 1:31 p.m.

Earlier, Ritchell Reboldad was found at 11:30 a.m. while Agnes Bitoon was recovered at 12:23 p.m.

The fatalities were identified as:

  • Catherine Gumatin, 27 years old
  • Hannah Gumatin, 9
  • Dysna Gumatin, 3
  • Arjay Gumatin, 1
  • Cristelle Gumatin, 10
  • Ailee Gumatin, 8
  • Marjomie Nenaria, 33
  • Ritchell Reboldad, 35
  • Agnes Bitoon, 44
  • Elvera Saldua, 35

The search, rescue, and retrieval operation team is still looking for one more missing person from the landslide identified as Rommel Gumatin, 45.

Meanwhile, one-year-old Amara Kate Delola was injured and brought to hospital.

The victims were holding a prayer worship at a home at Purok 19, Pagasa in Barangay Mt. Diwata when they were buried in the landslide.

An infant was critically injured in the incident.

Davao de Oro public information office chief Fe Maestre said 73 flooding and landslide incidents were recorded in the province.

A total of 270,206 people or 70,862 families in the Davao Region were affected by the bad weather caused by a shear line, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Friday.

Around 36,000 people were displaced from their homes, with 14,921 people or 4,217 families staying in evacuation centers and 21,870 others or 5,767 families staying in other places. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
