1-year-old killed by stray bullet in Cavite shooting

A one-year-old child died after being hit by a stray bullet during a shooting incident in Tanza, Cavite, according to a "Saksi" report by Jamie Santos on Wednesday.

Police investigation revealed that the suspect, alias Jojo, initially intended to shoot a certain Marvin Cortez. However, the bullet passed through Cortez and accidentally hit the child.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital but later died, while Cortez is currently recovering from his wounds.

Alias Jojo was later arrested in a follow-up operation and is currently facing a complaint for murder. He was also involved in a murder case of a student in November 2023.

“Nagiimbestiga pa rin para ma-establish natin ang motibo kung bakit nangyari yung pamamaril, at bakit binaril yung kaaway kaya may nadamay na bata,” said Tanza Police Captain Ricardo Asuncion Jr.

Police are still awaiting the sworn statement from Cortez, who is still confined in a hospital.  —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
