Infestation hits Ilocos Norte, Nueva Ecija


Farmers in Ilocos Norte and Nueva Ecija are currently tending to their crops after incidents of infestation, according to a Balitanghali report on Tuesday.

Ilocos Norte City Agriculture Office said that whiteflies are attracted to their crops, especially cauliflowers, due to the changing weather.

Other farmers raised their concerns about the rapid rotting of their crops.

Farmers have been advised to use insecticides to avoid further infestations.

Meanwhile, onion farmers in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija, have been facing armyworm infestations.

More than 30 hectares of farmland in over 7 different barangays were said to have been partially damaged by the infestation.

The local government units and the Department of Agriculture are currently working to provide assistance to affected farmers.

According to a Super Radyo dzBB report by Tuesday Niu, the DA will provide seedlings and pesticides to farmers.

The agency also plans on establishing more storage facilities for a longer product shelf life.
