Businessman shot dead in Davao del Norte; van driver dies in Bataan highway accident

A 45-year old businessman was shot dead at a parking lot in Tagum City, Davao del Norte over the weekend.

CCTV footage showed the victim was talking to a man at the parking lot when the alleged gunman approached them from behind and fatally shot the victim on the head several times, according to Saleema Refran’s 24 Oras report on Monday.

The suspect seemed to have rifled through the victim’s pockets before his motorcycle-riding accomplice arrived and helped him escape.

Authorities are still investigating the possible motive of the crime. The unidentified suspects remain at large.

Meanwhile, a van driver died after his vehicle collided head on with an oil tanker truck along a highway in Bataan. 

The truck driver said the van approached his vehicle head on at such speed that attempting to brake failed to stop the collision.

“Galing siya dito, sa linyang yan. Sinalubong niya ako diyan hanggang na-ano niya ako talagang nabunggo niya tapos pilit ko i-preno, wala na. ‘Di na nakayanan talaga,” he said.

Police are still investigating the exact cause of the incident and are trying to identify the van driver.—Sundy Locus/RF, GMA Integrated News
