Water sample in one Baguio establishment positive for fecal contamination

Water samples from 18 establishments in Baguio have tested positive for total coliform amid the outbreak of acute gastroenteritis in the city.

According to a "24 Oras Weekend" report, the samples were obtained from food establishments, water refilling stations, and even from homes and schools.

A sample taken from one of the establishments tested positive for fecal coliform.

According to the city health office, the examination of water samples continues, which includes the deep wells of the city's water district.

Over 3,000 diarrhea cases have been recorded so far in the city.

The Department of Health (DOH) said Thursday its Epidemiology Bureau and the Center for Health Development Cordillera Administrative Region are assisting the Baguio City government to manage and control the cases of diarrhea.

The DOH said the increase in diarrhea cases started on December 21, 2023.

The agency thus advised the public to use clean water for drinking, eating, cooking, brushing teeth, and washing the hands and face. — Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA Integrated News
