8-year-old 'accidentally' shot dead by kagawad in Iloilo

An 8 year-old child died after being accidentally shot by a homemade gun owned by a Sangguniang Kabataan kagawad in Barangay Paloc Bigque, Dumangas, Iloilo.

According to a State of the Nation report by Kim Salinas on Thursday, the victim was allegedly playing with a pellet gun outside the suspect’s home before the incident.

While the suspect warned the victim not to enter his house, the victim and another minor, who witnessed the incident, got in the property.

The suspect claimed that he accidentally dropped his gun, which hit the child. He tested negative during the paraffin test.

However, authorities said they would pursue the investigation as three shots were found on the victim’s head.

“Ang suspek, baka kumuha rin ng baril at ipinakita sa bata kaya [baka] aksidenteng nabaril,” said Dumangas Police Investigator Staff Sergeant Ramon Baylon Jr.

The father of the victim said the family would press charges.  The suspect did not give any comment. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
