Batangas port trips delayed due to bad weather, sea conditions — PCG
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday said the trips in Batangas Port have been delayed due to bad weather and sea conditions.
At the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing, PCG deputy spokesperson Lieutenant Junior Grade Jherich John Ybañez said they have discussed the matter with the port personnel.
“Hindi naman po talaga maiwasan kasi if there is a slight delay again maybe because of the weather, not necessarily bad weather or may signal number pero kapag malakas po ang alon, expected na po na babagal po ang kanilang travel time,” he said.
(The delays really cannot be avoided. If there is a slight delay maybe because of the weather, not necessarily bad weather or a signal number is up but when the waves are big, it is expected that their travel time slows down.)
Ybañez said the PCG set up medical and passenger assistance centers in ports to assist affected passengers.
On Wednesday evening, a total of 45,624 outbound passengers and 44,569 inbound passengers were monitored in all ports nationwide, the PCG said.
Around 2,960 PCG personnel were deployed and inspected 347 vessels and 119 motorbancas.
The PCG is on heightened alert until January 3, 2024 to manage the influx of passengers during the holiday season. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
