Suspect who killed 2 in Cebu Christmas party arrested


Police have arrested over the weekend the suspect in the fatal shooting of two people during a Christmas party in Pilar, Cebu last Friday.

In a 24 Oras report on Monday, witnesses said the party was in full swing at a covered basketball court at around 11 p.m. when the sound of gunshots were heard, causing the guests to scramble for safety.

Police investigation showed that prior to the shooting, the 40-year old suspect was allegedly drunk during the time of the incident and was making trouble during the festivities. Victims Roger Cataros, 49 and Benjie Alcala, 33 reportedly scolded the man for making a scene and asked him to leave.

Instead of calming down, the intoxicated suspect became enraged.He left but returned with a gun and shot the two men. Witnesses said they heard gunshots in the middle of a performance of a group of children. When they realized what was going on people ran for their lives.

Cataros died on the spot while Alcala was fatally wounded. During the ensuing commotion the suspect fled.

Police launched a manhunt and were able to arrest the suspect on Saturday.—RF, GMA Integrated News
