OPAPRU assists Bangsamoro gov't in extending aid to MSU bombing victims

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) has assisted the Bangsamoro government in extending assistance to the victims of the deadly bomb attack at Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City on Sunday.

On Monday, OPAPRU Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, and the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) visited six injured victims at the Amai Pakpak Medical Center and provided them with cash assistance worth P25,000 each.

Three of the 17 injured victims who were brought to the MSU Infirmary were given P5,000 each for transportation, while 14 received P2,000 each for their medical needs.

Meanwhile, the MSSD visited Iligan City and Lanao del Sur to extend financial aid to the bereaved families of those who were killed in the deadly blast.

Four people were killed and dozens were injured in the bombing incident, which took place inside MSU's gymnasium in Marawi while a Mass was being held, attended by students and teachers.

The military earlier said one of the suspects—identified as Jaffar Gamo Sultan, alias Jaf and Kurot—was arrested in Barangay Dulay Proper in Marawi on Wednesday.

Sultan is allegedly one of the companions of a certain Omar, the man tagged as the one who brought an improvised explosive device to the Dimaporo Gymnasium inside the university.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has strongly condemned the attack and ordered the police and military to ensure the protection and safety of civilians and the security of affected and vulnerable communities.

Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal "Bombit" Alonto Adiong Jr. condemned the incident on Sunday and vowed to make sure justice would be served.

The League of Provinces of the Philippines, while also condemning the bombing, also called on the people of Marawi to restrain themselves from seeking revenge.  —VBL, GMA Integrated News
