Fisherfolk in GenSan, Sarangani affected by earthquake get help from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Following the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao last week, the GMA Kapuso Foundation delivered help to affected residents in General Santos City and Sarangani province.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, aside from damaged houses and infrastructure, the livelihood of the residents, many of them fisherfolk, was also affected.
Despite the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology's announcement that there is no tsunami threat, the residents still experienced rough seas, including in Barangay Bula, which resulted in the destruction of several boats.
"'Yung dagat pagpunta doon, pagbalik, malaki na talaga, maalon talaga. Hindi naligtas ang sakayan namin. 'Yung asawa ko, malapit na madisgrasya, maipit siya ba sa sakayan," Jocelyn Cerilla said.
Meanwhile, in Glan, Sarangani, Fatima Laureño has been taking shelter in a hut for a week after her house was destroyed by the earthquake.
"Pagkatapon ko, nagpagulong-gulong na. Nung una, 'yung bahay ko hindi pa naano, pagkatapos ng lindol sabi ko 'hala, hala,' tsaka na-down yung bahay ko," Fatima said.
GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately delivered help and organized a feeding program for the residents in Glan and Malapatan, Sarangani province.
"'Yung mga most affected namin dito na mga tao is 'yung mga fisherfolks. Hindi lang kami tumutulong sa peace and order dito sa GenSan, pati na rin sa pagtulong like pamimigay ng mga relief goods," Task Force GenSan LTC. William Galanta said.
For those who are interested to help, GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
