Reported deaths from Mindanao quake now 8 -NDRRMC
The number of people who reportedly died in the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that hit Davao Occidental on Friday increased to eight, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.
NDRRMC Deputy Spokesperson Mark Timbal said that four of the fatalities came from Sarangani, three were from General Santos City, and one from Davao Occidental.
Thirteen people, meanwhile, were injured in the quake.
The council said that reports on casualties were still being validated as local government units were continuing their assessments.
The earthquake also left 54 houses damaged in Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, South Cotabato, and Sarangani; as well as 71 structures damaged in Davao City, Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, South Cotabato, and Sarangani.
Some 1,509 individuals or 180 families were affected by the home and structure damage, according to the NDRRMC.
On the other hand, power lines were restored in affected areas, and all damaged bridges were now passable.
Three of the 12 roads damaged in Soccsksargen were not yet passable.
The NDRRMC said Digos City suspended classes at all levels following the earthquake. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
