Philippine brown deer wanders around a barangay in Marinduque
A deer that can only be found in the Philippines was spotted wandering around Barangay Duyay in Boac, Marinduque.
According to Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, the deer is a Philippine brown deer or a Rusa marianna. It is also called Philippine sambar.
A resident named Dexter Nite took a video of the gentle but sensitive deer and uploaded it to social media.
"Sabi ko po 'wag pong galawin at pakialaman. Kailangan pong i-report sa DENR," Dexter said.
While waiting, the residents temporarily tied the deer to protect it. However, the rope they used eventually broke.
"Nung umaga, nakakakawala na po pala 'yung usa. Naputol po dun sa tali. Nag-alala po kami baka 'yung tali po ay mapasabit kung saan," Dexter said.
Meanwhile, the residents soon found the Philippine brown deer again in a creek.
"Naalis nila muli 'yung tali ng usa at temporarily ay nalagyan nila ng tag dun sa kaniyang sungay for identification," ecosystem management specialist Alvin Pergis said.
The deer eventually went home in the forest.
"Hinihikayat namin sila na kami ay tulungan para ma-preserve at maalagaan natin dun sa kaniyang natural habitat," he said.
