The mayor of Datu Salibo town in Maguindanao del Sur was arrested on Friday with four others over their alleged links with the killing of two barangay officials.

“The mayor was a very cooperative. There was no resistance,” Regional Director from the Bangsamoro Provincial Regional Office Police Brigadier General Allan Nobleza said.

Sandigan is facing complaint for double homicide along with 4 other suspects, who were identified as his bodyguards.

“The family of the victims, they filed cases against mayor Silungan and the others… We cannot speculate, but it depends on how the court will conduct their own probe,” he added.

Earlier, the Datu Salibo, including the barangay where the crime took place, was named as an area for concern by the Commission on Elections for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

The local police said it is "in full control of the situation."
