Magnitude 6.4 earthquake felt in parts of Mindanao


A magnitude 6.4 earthquake was felt over several areas in Mindanao at around on Wednesday evening.

According to a "Saksi" report, video footage of the incident showed people evacuating multiple establishments, shaking metal foundations and swaying road cables during the quake.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded the epicenter of the earthquake near Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

The following areas were said to have felt earthquake Intensity V:

Sarangani, and Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Kiamba, and Malungon, Sarangani; City of Digos, Davao del Sur

The following areas recorded Intensity IV:

City of General Santos; City of Koronadal, Tupi, T'Boli, Polomolok, South Cotabato; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Palimbang, and Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat

The following areas recorded Intensity III:

City of Davao; Alamada, Banisilan, City of Kidapawan, Magpet, Makilala, M'lang, Matalam, Pigcawayan, and Tulunan, COTABATO; Kalamansig, Lambayong, President Quirino, Senator Ninoy Aquino, and City of Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat; Lake Sebu, Tampakan, Santo Niño, and Surallah, South Cotabato

The following areas recorded Intensity II:

Zamboanga City; Antipas, Arakan, Libungan, and President Roxas, Cotabato; Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat; San Fernando, and Kalilangan,

Bukidnon; City of Gingoog, Misamis Oriental; Tantangan, South Cotabato; Cotabato City; Datu Odin Sinsuat, and Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte

The following areas recorded Intensity I:

Cagayan de Oro City; Pangantucan, and Cabanglasan, Bukidnon; Aleosan, Cotabato

Phivolcs earlier reported that a magnitude 6.1 quake struck Sarangani.

A series of Magnitude 2 up to Magnitude 3 aftershocks with epicenters in nearby areas have already been reported by Phivolcs as of posting.

Meanwhile, Davao Occidental declared a suspension of classes across all levels on Thursday because of the earthquake. — Jiselle Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
