State of calamity declared in BARMM's Special Geographic Area
A state of calamity was declared in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao's Special Geographic Area (SGA) due to flooding, according to a Sunday afternoon GMA Integrated News Bulletin.
Flooding was reported in 27 SGA barangays that used to be part of Cotabato.
According to weather service PAGASA, Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and a low-pressure area trough were affecting the country.
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao website reported that 25,946 households or approximately 129,730 individuals were affected by the flooding. This was 60.21% of the entire SGA population.
The flooding also affected 329 hectares of agricultural land.
The SGA Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Council expected the remaining low-lying areas of the SGA to be flooded in the coming days due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone, incoming Southwest Monsoon, and LPA. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
