Six suspected New People’s Army rebels, including a squad leader, were killed in an encounter in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Thursday evening, the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division said on Friday.

According to 3ID spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel J-Jay Javines, the 47th Infantry (Katapatan) Battalion had a 10-minute firefight with around 10 suspected rebels at 7:50 p.m.

Recovered from the area were four caliber .45 pistols, one of which was government-issued and carted away when the group allegedly waylaid Army personnel in Sipalay in December 2022.

Other recovered items were a hand grenade, caliber .38 revolver, medical paraphernalia, electronic equipment, personal belongings, and subversive documents with high intel value, the military said.
