BFAR issues toxic red tide warning in eight areas


The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources on Wednesday released a toxic red tide alert for eight areas in the country.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources on Wednesday released a toxic red tide alert for eight areas in the country.

In a Shellfish Bulletin released by BFAR, shellfish collected in the following areas have tested positive for Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) or toxic red tide beyond the regulatory limit.

  • Sapian Bay (Ivisan and Sapian in Capiz, Mambuquiao and Camanci, Batan in Aklan)
  • Coastal waters of Panay
  • Pilar
  • President Roxas
  • Roxas City in Capiz
  • Coastal waters of Gigantes Islands, Carles in Iloilo
  • Coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol
  • Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur

"All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the areas shown above are NOT SAFE for human consumption," the agency said. 

Fresh fish, squids, shrimps and crabs that have been thoroughly washed and internal organs removed, meanwhile, have been cleared for eating. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
