Catapang relieves Davao prison superintendent

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. has relieved the acting superintendent of the Davao Prison and Penal Farm following the escape and re-arrest of a person deprived of liberty (PDL), the agency announced Tuesday.

In a statement, BuCor said Catapang relieved former Superintendent Rufino Martin on Monday for his belated report on the escape of PDL Jundee Caño from the minimum security compound on September 13.

BuCor said Caño was re-arrested on September 17, but the information was only forwarded to BuCor today.

Caño was reportedly re-arrested in a hot pursuit operation with members of the Damulog Municipal Police Station.

The Director General said such incidents should be reported immediately.

“If there are any untoward incidents in various colonies, I don’t want to be the last to know, so this will serve as a warning to all BuCor officials,” Catapang said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
