Road, 2-storey house collapse as heavy rains hit Cebu
A 2-storey house and a section of street collapsed in separate incidents in Cebu City following heavy rains.
According to GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak's Nikko Sereno's report on "24 Oras," the owner of the house said the ground collapsed due to a cracked culvert nearby amid the flooding in the province.
The street damage, meanwhile, was near the construction of a high-rise building. Construction workers placed concrete blocks over the damaged section.
In a mall parking lot, cars were stuck in floodwaters, with some even floating. Declogging operations were immediately conducted in the area.
In Mandaue City, the local government intensified its pre-emptive evacuation after experiencing neck-deep floods this Monday.
Earlier Thursday, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office personnel, team, and Mandaue City Police gathered to discuss the intensified protocols to be implemented.
The authority decided to send a disaster team member to the flooded areas when heavy rain is expected.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the rain is due to the effects of Habagat and localized thunderstorms. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA Integrated News
