3 injured, 58 evacuated due to Cagayan earthquake
Three girls sustained injuries after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan, on Tuesday evening.
According to a ''24 Oras'' report by Dano Tingcungco on Wednesday, the first two victims were resting inside their room at Barangay Centro Dos when a wall fell on them during the earthquake.
The victims were rushed to the hospital and are now recuperating.
The third victim, a 17-year-old girl, was also injured after getting hit by debris.
The earthquake affected more than 10 families, and 58 people were evacuated, based on the report by the Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The walls and floors of Calayan High School had cracks as classes were suspended at all levels in the municipality to allow for the examination of schools.
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba has also ordered safety inspections of other infrastructure around the area.
No casualties or damage were reported in Ilocos Norte, according to the PDRRMO.
Earlier, the Office of Civil Defense said they were validating reports that five people got injured following the tectonic earthquake, which was downgraded from magnitude 6.4 and happened at 7:03 p.m. on Tuesday.
Its epicenter was located 19 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported more than 100 aftershocks following the earthquake. —Jiselle Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
