5 injured after magnitude 6.3 quake in Cagayan —OCD
Five people were reported injured due to a collapsed wall after the magnitude 6.3 earthquake off the coast of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan on Tuesday evening, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Wednesday.
In its bulletin, the OCD said two of the injured persons sustained brain trauma and head concussion, while the remaining three suffered minor injuries. These reports are still for validation.
No deaths, damage to infrastructures, and displaced individuals have been reported so far, according to the OCD.
The OCD Region II as well as the Cagayan and Isabela Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMCs) are still monitoring and assessing the situation.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Operations Center forwarded emergency alert and warning messages to affected residents. Search and rescue teams are also on alert and standby.
Assistance is prepositioned and readily available for distribution to affected residents, the OCD said.
The tectonic earthquake, which was downgraded from magnitude 6.4, happened at 7:03 p.m. with a depth of focus of 41 kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
As of 8 a.m., PHIVOLCS said a total of 99 aftershocks have been recorded ranging from magnitude 1.5 to 3.7 with depths of eight up to 29 kilometers.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
